UD Parents and Family Weekend to feature entertainment, football, tours

9:08 a.m., Aug. 7, 2014--Parents, family members and guests are invited to join their University of Delaware student for Parents and Family Weekend (PFW) this fall for three days of fun and celebration, Friday, Oct. 10, through Sunday, Oct. 12.

Among the featured events, UD will welcome comedian Joel McHale to the annual PFW Comedy Show at the Bob Carpenter Center on Friday evening.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The ever popular “Ghost and History Tours” will again be available on both Friday and Saturday evenings.

Saturday will hold a plethora of activity for PFW guests, who can catch the Fightin' Blue Hen spirit when the UD football team takes on Elon University for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff at Delaware Stadium. Those attending can join UD faculty, administrators and staff prior to the football game at the Family Fest Tailgate.

Various athletic events and museums will be open throughout the weekend in addition to the Barnes and Noble University Bookstore, which will host an "Ice Cream and Authors” program.

The PFW website is now live with details about the weekend, so those who plan to attend are encouraged to visit the site and peruse the schedule. Check back often because new events will be added throughout the coming weeks.

Ticket sales and pre-registration for the most popular events will begin at 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 11. All ticket sales are online and can be accessed through the PFW website.
