2:54 p.m., Aug. 19, 2014--The University of Delaware is monitoring the Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa, and the University's Student Health Services has developed plans to deal with any issues that may arise on the campus. As of Aug. 12, no Ebola virus cases have occurred in the United States.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has issued travel warnings for Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, advising against nonessential travel. Officials in all four of these countries are working with national and international partners to investigate and respond to the outbreak.

IT Tech Fair

UD faculty and staff members are invited to attend the 2014 UD Tech Fair on Oct. 28 in the Trabant University Center to explore new technology.

In accordance with CDC guidelines, all members of the UD community who have traveled from any of these affected countries are being asked to monitor their temperature daily for the first 21 days after their travel. If they develop a fever of 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit (38.6 degrees Celsius), they are asked to contact UD's Student Health Services immediately. (According to the CDC, if an exposed person does not develop symptoms after 21 days, they will not become sick with Ebola.)

At this time, no additional monitoring or restrictions are recommended by the CDC.

UD officials will continue to monitor latest information from the CDC and the U.S. Department of State.
