UC Irvine's White keynote speaker for Delaware Membrane Protein Symposium

11:37 a.m., April 9, 2015--The Delaware Membrane Protein Symposium will be held Monday, May 4, at Clayton Hall on the University of Delaware campus in Newark.

The symposium will bring together researchers from a diverse range of interests and techniques who share an interest in exploring the functions of membranes and their components.

Chronic wounds

UD's Millicent Sullivan and Kristi Kiick have received a $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research that could provide a new approach to the treatment of chronic wounds.

Prof. Heck's legacy

The American Chemical Society is highlighting the legacy of the late Nobel laureate Richard Heck, the Willis F. Harrington Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Delaware with a digital tribute on its publications website.

In addition to invited lectures by renowned experts in membrane biophysics and biology, the symposium will include poster presentations by students and postdocs.

Symposium registration is now being accepted and the deadline is Tuesday, April 28.

Keynote speaker for the event will be Stephen White of the University of California at Irvine, who will present on the topic “Membrane Protein Folding: Biology Meets Thermodynamics.” White will speak at 4:15 p.m.

The symposium will begin at 9 a.m. and continue through 5:15 p.m. Registration and continental breakfast will begin at 8 a.m.

The symposium is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) program on membrane protein production and characterization and supported by NIH’s National Institute of General Medical Sciences.

Organizers of the event are Edward Lyman, assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and Sharon Rozovsky, assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
