This year’s roundtable sessions have focused on effective teaching in large classes, with sessions such as “Holding Students in Large Classes Accountable” and “Asking Questions that Encourage Critical Thinking in Large Classes.”
Participants in the May 1 unconference may continue with that theme or bring in new teaching topics that they would like to discuss and explore. New topics from the unconference will influence the programming for next year’s First Friday Roundtable series.
A reception will follow in Faculty Commons. Attendance at the unconference is not necessary to attend the reception.
All faculty and graduate students are welcome. The First Friday Roundtable series is a collaboration of partners of Faculty Commons.
Other Faculty Commons sessions for those who teach at the University of Delaware include the following:
- SmartBoard Basics: May 6, 12:45-1:30 p.m. This hands-on overview introduces instructors to the interactive learning potential of SmartBoard technology. Topics include: installing the SmartBoard software and connecting a laptop, writing, erasing, marquee touch and inspirational ideas to consider incorporating into classes.
- Clicker chats: May 7, 2:30-3 p.m. Clicker chats showcase proven teaching strategies that UD faculty can apply in their classes to improve student learning. Those who attend should come prepared to participate.
- Presentation Makeover: May 8, 1-3 p.m. Those interested in freshening existing presentations or developing new content are invited to join Faculty Commons staff for a fun and productive afternoon creating presentations with tools attendees want to explore. Whether it's polishing existing PowerPoints, collaborating with Google Slides, or taming the Prezi woosh, participants will leave with new skills. Bring a laptop, starter presentation samples and a wish list to this high-energy exchange.
