Unsung Hero

The One Love Foundation has announced that University of Delaware men's lacrosse standout Elijah Conte has been selected as a winner of the 2016 YRL Unsung Hero Award.

Boston University finished second with 118 points and Dartmouth College was third with 114.5 points.

“Being able to compete at home is such a wonderful privilege,” said Beth Kalbach, UDFS secretary. “The comfort in knowing exactly how the ice will feel and what the stands look like is nice, but being able to share the weekend with and having the support of friends, families and even professors is ultimately one of the most rewarding parts.”

“It’s always nice to have the opportunity to skate at our home rink with friends and family who are able to come support us,” Clara Sherman, a senior on the team, said. “This was my last home competition and it was exciting to see a majority of the bleachers filled with UD students and people there to watch and support our team.”

UDFS will travel to Vacaville, California, on April 10-12 to compete at the 2015 U.S. Intercollegiate National Championships being hosted by the University of California at Berkeley.

The UD team will try to defend its national title after victories in both 2013 and 2014.

“This competition sets up UDFS extremely well for nationals, as we scored just under our highest score -- and the highest point total that any collegiate team has earned -- by one point, and that was with some placements and skates that could be highly improved in time for nationals,” Hannah Kimberly, UDFS president, said. “We have so much momentum going into this national championships and I think that as long as our team continues to work hard and improve as we have throughout this entire season, we're going to be in a very strong position as we defend our national title.”
