Newark Police arrest two in gunpoint robbery of UD students
5:27 p.m., April 1, 2015--Newark Police have arrested two 19-year-olds in connection with the gunpoint robbery of two male University of Delaware students that occurred around 2:55 a.m., Sunday, March 29, in the 300 block of East Main Street in Newark.
Orlando Smith of Newark was taken into custody near the scene for unrelated charges and later charged in this case based on the investigation. Anaya Hakes was taken into custody on April 1 at her residence in Bear after a search warrant was conducted.
Each was charged with first degree robbery and second degree conspiracy.
Smith was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $10,500 secured bail, and Hakes was committed to Baylor Women's Correctional Institution in lieu of $21,000 secured bail.
