Oct.5: Main Street Mile
Downtown Newark's annual Main Street Mile run announced
1:49 p.m., Sept. 24, 2013--Downtown Newark will hold the seventh annual Main Street Mile run and walk at 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5.
Hundreds of runners and walkers are expected to take advantage of the rare opportunity to travel down the center of Main Street without cars and traffic while at the same time supporting the Newark Police K-9 Unit and the Downtown Newark Partnership, of which the University of Delaware is a member.

The annual fundraiser has become an important source of funding for the Newark Police K-9 Unit.
The race will begin at the McDonald's traffic circle on Main Street at 8 a.m. and will finish minutes later at the Deer Park Tavern. Immediately following, runners and walkers will be treated to a brunch hosted by the Deer Park Tavern.
The Main Street Mile is sponsored by the Downtown Newark Partnership, Newark Police Department, Fusion Fitness Center, Rittenhouse Station, Deer Park Tavern, Klondike Kate's, Catherine Rooney's, Taverna and New Balance.
To register for the Main Street Mile, visit the website. Pre-registration is $18 through Sept. 29. The first 250 people to pre-register will receive a Main Street Mile T-shirt.
Day of race registration will be held 7-7:45 a.m. at Fusion Fitness in Market East Plaza. Registration is $22 after Sept. 29 through the day of the race.
