The family-friendly event will feature nearly 300 vendors and several stages for musical performances and entertainment.
There will be food, fine art and homemade crafts created by local artisans and crafters, and a children's area complete with games of skill and chance. Youngsters will have an opportunity to build their own scarecrows for the season.
As part of the festivities, the Newark National Little League team that won the Mid-Atlantic championship and advanced to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., will be recognized and honored at 1 p.m. at Performance Area 1 in front of Memorial Hall. Team members will sign bats and make a presentation to the Newark Historical Society.
The team also received recognition at halftime of the first UD football game of the season, a victory over Jacksonville.
Community information booths and activities featuring a variety of local businesses and organizations will populate The Green and downtown businesses and restaurants will offer dining and retail specials. Coupons for downtown businesses can be found at the Downtown Newark Partnership booth.
City officials note that pets are not comfortable in the heat, noise and crowds of large events, so for their safety and the safety of those attending the event, pets should be left at home.
In case of inclement weather, Main Street merchant and dining specials will remain in effect. All other activities will be postponed until Sunday, Sept. 22. For weather related cancellations, call 302-366-7147.
