Sept. 30-Oct. 4: Walk Away From Cancer
Local nonprofit teams with UD for event to raise funds and awareness
2:58 p.m., Sept. 11, 2013--The University of Delaware College of Health Sciences is teaming with Cancer Care Connection on a new fundraising event, “Walk Away From Cancer.” During the week of Sept 30, teams of participants will compete for “most steps walked” over a five-day period.
Funds raised will support the Newark-based non-profit’s counseling and information services for people affected by cancer.

Jan. 31-Feb. 1: Super Bowl parties
“The virtual environment of the event will raise awareness of steps that we all can take to reduce the risk of cancer while also highlighting resources available to students, faculty, staff, and community members who are affected by cancer,” says Janet Teixeira, executive director of Cancer Care Connection.
At the end of the weeklong event, prizes will be awarded for most steps walked and most sponsorship money raised. The event will also feature a poster contest, with the winner’s poster used to advertise next year’s walk. Prizes include iPad minis and Kindle Fires.
Cost is $15 per walker. All participants will receive a T-shirt and a pedometer. Entries will be accepted up until 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30, but registration is required by Friday, Sept. 13, to guarantee choice of T-shirt size.
