Newark Police announced additional arrests in Sept. 9 incident
5:31 p.m., Oct. 1, 2013--Newark Police have announced five additional arrests following the Sept. 9 incident in which a large and disorderly crowd gathered downtown.
Police said four people, all University of Delaware students, turned themselves in on Sept. 26 and have been charged with disorderly conduct and pedestrian walking along a roadway where sidewalks are provided.
They are Scott Crosby, 18, of the 2200 block of Pennington Drive in Wilmington; Kyle Menchaca, 20, of Lloyd Circle in Wilmington; Sean Pie, 19, of the 2400 block of Greendale Road in Wilmington; and Mohammed Alam, 19, of Fairfax Boulevard in Wilmington.
All were released on their own recognizance pending a future appearance in Newark Alderman Court 40.
Separately, on Sept. 21, Newark Police arrested a fifth UD student, Jeffrey Taviano, 21, of the 1600 block of Willow Avenue in Wilmington and charged him with disorderly conduct, pedestrian walking along a roadway where sidewalks are provided, and noise between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Taviano was arrested as police were investigating a noise complaint on Benny Street on Sept. 21, and the third charge stems from that. The first two charges are related to the incident downtown.
Newark Police are still attempting to identify several suspects from an earlier press release.
