Oct. 17: 'Perspectives' series
Andrews to discuss exhibition 'Boxes, Combs, Constellations'
8:35 a.m., Oct. 14, 2013--Deborah C. Andrews, professor of English and director of the University of Delaware’s Center for Material Culture Studies, will present a “Perspectives” series talk on the exhibition “Hassinger and Clark: Boxes, Combs, and Constellations” from 1:30-2:15 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, in the Mechanical Hall Gallery.
"Perspectives" is a series of informal afternoon discussions led by curators and invited faculty about the objects, exhibitions and ideas on display in the University Museums galleries.
Sept. 19: POW, MIA remembrance
Sept. 20: Do you Dare to Serve?
Scheduled at lunchtime, these varied, short and informal talks offer an introduction to each exhibition as well as time for discussion.
The exhibition, on view through Dec. 8, highlights the visual alchemy of artists Maren Hassinger and Sonya Clark, whose creative agencies turn the ordinary into extraordinary. Through their gifts of artistic innovation the artists have transformed Mechanical Hall Gallery into a space for contemplation, consideration and ambulation.
The exhibition follows short residencies of Hassinger and Clark at the University in the spring.
The exhibition is curated by Julie L. McGee, curator of African American art with University Museums and associate professor of Black American Studies.
