SPPA hosts regional conference for public administration
9:41 a.m., Nov. 18, 2013--The University of Delaware School of Public Policy and Administration hosted the fourth annual Northeast Conference on Public Administration (NECoPA) on Nov. 1-2, bringing more than 180 professionals and experts in the field together to discuss “Public Administration in an Information Society: Opportunities, Threats, and Intriguing Possibilities.”
“In SPPA, we pride ourselves with integrating academic excellence with professional experience, and we have done our best to offer a program that balances the interest of academics, practitioners and students,” said Maria Aristigueta, SPPA director and vice president of the American Society for Public Administration.

The conference featured 34 panels ranging from topics on healthcare performance, to white collar crime, to education.
U.S. Rep. John Carney, an alumnus of the school’s master’s in public administration degree program, delivered the keynote address on careers in public service and the future of the public sector.
In addition to Carney’s talk, Princeton University professor Richard Keevey spoke on the long-range fiscal challenges for state governments.
“Our economy has become a global information economy where knowledge is what’s truly valuable,” said John McNutt, SPPA professor and conference chair. “Technology has changed the way we make our livelihood and the way we live our lives, and this international conference explores some of the ramifications of those changes.”
