One of the agencies helping families in the city of Newark is the Homeward Bound Shelter.
Homeward Bound Emmaus House Family Shelter and Services is a private nonprofit agency dedicated to serving families in crisis with effective and responsive programs and services. The agency provides emergency shelter in a house in Newark, and this service is provided for up to four families for 30 days. Services include a violence support group, a brown bag club, a transitional housing program and life skills training.
While children are doing their homework with volunteers, parents are able to improve their own life skills to help better themselves and their families. Topics include parenting classes, employment readiness and money management.
