Newark Police seek public's assistance identifying theft suspect
6:08 p.m., May 12, 2014--Newark Police are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a man suspected of stealing the wallet of an 82-year-old woman at Panera Bread, 140 East Main St.
At approximately 12:10 p.m., Saturday, May 10, the victim was at the restaurant eating with her family. Her purse was hanging behind her on the chair. A man sat behind her, did not order anything and kept moving his jacket from chair to chair. After finishing her meal, the victim checked her purse and discovered the wallet from her purse was missing.

The victim contacted Newark Police and her credit card company. Her credit card company advised that her credit card had just been used at the Wawa at 601 Ogletown Rd. Investigators viewed Wawa surveillance footage that shows the suspect making a purchase and leaving in a black vehicle, with possible New York license plates.
The suspect is described as approximately 6 feet to 6 feet 4 inches tall, wearing a white T-shirt, a dark colored jacket and a baseball cap.
Police remind members of the community to always keep valuables in view, regardless of your proximity to them.
