Residence Life and Housing seeks volunteers for August move-in
9:44 a.m., May 7, 2014--University of Delaware Residence Life and Housing is looking for volunteers to help new students move into residence halls on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Residence Life and Housing has been offering this service campus-wide to incoming first year students since 1994, after assuming responsibility from Sigma Chi fraternity, which initially developed the team as a service project to assist the first year students in the Dickinson Complex.
Blue Hen Helpers assist new students and families move their luggage and other belongings into their residence hall rooms on new student check-in day.
The Blue Hen Helpers are the first to extend a warm welcome to new students and their families and begin to build the strong and positive community that enhances every student’s living and learning experience.
Helpers can be students, staff, faculty, alumni, or community members.
Those students who are living on campus who want to volunteer can move into their residence halls early on Aug. 22 from 5-9 p.m. and receive a discounted rate on their early check-in fee. Blue Hen Helpers will only pay $25.
This year, Residence Life and Housing will be offering an opportunity for groups of four or more to sign up together in addition to the individual registration.
Sign up is available online for groups and individuals at the Blue Hen Helper website.
Those who have any questions can contact Linda Wooters in Residence Life and Housing at email@example.com or by calling 302-831-8423.
Additionally, on move-in day, faculty members are invited to visit residence halls to interact with both parents and students. During this time, faculty members will have an opportunity to welcome new students to campus, and answer any general campus and classroom questions. See the website for more information.
For interested faculty, a Residence Life and Housing liaison and optional residence hall tour will be provided before move-in day.
To sign up, or to find more information about the role faculty members can play on move-in day and after, contact Siobhan May, student engagement coordinator in Residence Life and Housing, at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 302-832-0699.
