April 9 UD Research Administrator Conference offers host of educational sessions

8:24 a.m., March 19, 2014--Registration is now open for the 2014 University of Delaware Research Administrator Conference scheduled on Wednesday, April 9, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Clayton Hall. 

The UD Research Office is collaborating with groups across campus to develop a diverse program for this year's conference. The Research Office will offer a day filled with educational sessions and an opportunity to network with colleagues.

The McNair Scholars Program at UD recently hosted its 12th annual research competition and graduate fair, with students awarded prizes for outstanding presentations in science and social science.

Biomedical grant opportunities

Two of UD's NIH Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) programs have issued calls for grant applications from UD researchers. Proposals are due by Nov. 14.

Information tables also will be available 8 a.m.-1:45 p.m. from the following departments that work closely with the Research Office: Office of Graduate and Professional Education; Environmental Health and Safety; HR Employee Wellness/Education; IT Client Support and Services; Faculty and Staff Assistance Program; Morris Library; Undergraduate Research Program.

Also, new this year, three conference tracks will be offered to provide participants with information specific to their responsibilities. 

Participants will be able to select the sessions or tracks that meet their needs, including two advanced track sessions with limited seating.

Early Career Track: The Early Career Track is for participants who are new to their research responsibilities (one to three years) or for those participants who would like a refresher on the basics of research administration. Topics include:

  • Understanding the Pre-Award Process
  • Fly America/Open Skies (All Attendees)
  • Managing Effort: Award to Close Out
  • Automated Close-Out Reports: How to be Successful!

Mid-Level/Advanced Track: The Mid-Level/Advanced Track is for participants who have been in their research roles for four or more years and want to have more advanced discussions of Research Administration. Topics include:

  • Partnering with Collaborators Inside and Outside of UD
  • Fly America/Open Skies (All Attendees)
  • Subrecipient Monitoring
  • Uncommon Contracting and Grant Issues

Advanced Track (Maximum 20 Participants for each session): The Advanced Track is for participants who have been in their research roles for an extended period of time and typically have a managerial role. Topics include:

  • Advanced Accounting Discussion
  • Fly America/Open Skies (All Attendees)
  • Recognizing Complex Matters within Human Subject Research

Attendees are asked to bring their employee ID card to the conference, as electronic card readers will be used to automate registration.

Registration for the conference and lunch is required to ensure that conference planners can prepare appropriately.
