June 21: Newark festival
City introduces summer festival New Night Downtown Newark
1:41 p.m., June 18, 2014--The city of Newark and the Downtown Newark Partnership have announced that downtown's new signature festival, New Night Downtown Newark, will be held from 3-9 p.m., Saturday, June 21, on Main Street.
Main Street will be closed to traffic from Chapel Street to South College Avenue so that businesses can expand onto sidewalks and parking spaces, and pedestrians can take over the street for an evening of arts, music and fun.
Sept. 19: POW, MIA remembrance
Sept. 20: Do you Dare to Serve?
The street will be filled with live music and performances, fine arts, great food, shopping, games and children's activities.
The festival showcases downtown's restaurants, shops and vibrant art scene. There will be plenty for families to enjoy while socializing with friends, neighbors and those experiencing Newark for the first time.
Musical performers will be positioned along the center of Main Street throughout the night, through a partnership with Gable Music Ventures.
The Newark Arts Alliance will offer "Art on the Lawn" at the University of Delaware’s Academy Building featuring a variety of local and regional artists and artisans. Across the street, the Newark Historical Society will feature an exhibit about the history of Main Street.
This is a rain or shine event. Main Street will be closed to traffic beginning at 2 p.m. until approximately 10 p.m. the day of the event to allow enough time for businesses to set up their expanded displays, and then to remove them from the right of way following the event.
