July 4: Liberty Day, fireworks
UD athletic complex site of Newark Fourth of July activities
12:19 p.m., June 26, 2014--The city of Newark will hold its Liberty Day celebration and fireworks display from 6-9 p.m., Friday, July 4, at the University of Delaware’s David M. Nelson Athletic Complex on South College Avenue.
The annual Independence Day celebration -- featuring live entertainment, food, arts and crafts, and games -- is expected to draw approximately 18,000 people while the fireworks will be viewed by an estimated 40,000 people in the area.
Through July 31: 'Margaret Walker' exhibition
July 31: Ragtime and jazz concert
Live musical entertainment will begin at 6 p.m., with The Reunion taking the stage. The Juggling Hoffmans will perform at 7:15 p.m. and Club Phred at 7:45 p.m.
Fireworks will begin at dusk.
Free parking will be available in the UD athletic complex lots.
City officials advise that pets should be left at home and secured safely during the fireworks display because fireworks tend to scare many pets and many animals are lost during Independence Day celebrations.
The rain date is Saturday, July 5, with fireworks only.
If there is questionable weather, call the city’s leisure time hotline at 302-366-7147 for rain date information or cancellation.
For additional information, call the Newark Parks and Recreation Office at 302-366-7060. Note that municipal offices and Alderman's Court will be closed on July 4.
This event is made possible, in part, by Comcast and a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency committed to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
