TEXT SIZE

12 p.m., July 1, 2013--The American Philosophical Association, based at the University of Delaware, and the PhilPapers Foundation have announced a new partnership that will offer significant benefits to both APA members and the philosophical community at large.

Beginning this August, the APA’s Jobs for Philosophers, which has been the premier source for professional jobs in philosophy for more than three decades, will merge with PhilJobs, the PhilPapers Foundation’s respected and widely used philosophy jobs website, to become PhilJobs: Jobs for Philosophers (PhilJobs: JFP).

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

By bringing together the excellent PhilJobs software platform with JFP’s established presence and the APA’s protections for job candidates such as its nondiscrimination policy, the partnership will create an online source for jobs in philosophy that is both comprehensive and user-friendly and gives job seekers confidence in fairness and equity in the hiring process.

Further, the new combined service will be tailored to both U.S. and international job listings, making it the go-to site for those seeking professional employment in philosophy as well as for hiring institutions.

PhilJobs: Jobs for Philosophers will be free of charge for all job seekers, and job advertisements will be available at competitive rates on a sliding fee scale to appeal to all types of institutions and hiring searches. Further, PhilJobs: JFP aims to expand to provide additional services for both job seekers and hiring departments in future years.

Starting July 1, Jobs for Philosophers is freely accessible to job seekers in anticipation of the transition to PhilJobs: JFP.

The APA’s partnership with the PhilPapers Foundation will also extend to other initiatives. The APA will provide financial support for foundation projects including PhilPapers, a comprehensive directory of online philosophical articles and books by academic philosophers, and PhilPeople, an interactive, crowd-sourced, open directory of philosophers.

The APA’s contribution will enable the PhilPapers Foundation to continue to maintain and expand its services for the community while evolving toward a sustainable funding model for the future.
