9:18 a.m., July 18, 2013--The Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware campus hotel has welcomed its 4,000th family into the VIP -- or Very Important Parents -- program.

This special distinction goes to the family of Grace and Mike Fratello and their daughter Gabrielle, an incoming freshman and member of UD’s Class of 2017.

First Friday Roundtable

The First Friday Roundtable session on Feb. 12 will review UD's teaching and learning grants.

“The University of Delaware was Gabrielle’s first choice and we are so happy to be here,” said Grace and Mike Fratello. “We love this hotel and the great location on campus and the nearby Newark Main Street.”

Designed exclusively for UD parents, the program offers discounts for hotel guest rooms, dining and other services, as well as discounts at local restaurants, shops and attractions. All of the items are updated weekly on the VIP website.

The free program has been extremely popular with UD parents, said William Sullivan, managing director of the campus hotel.

“We have engaged our hotel team and local merchants to come up with a great program for our very important parents,” Sullivan said. “I hope all parents will join and enjoy the additional service and discounts that our program offers.”

The VIP program was developed in 2009 with the assistance of Kathy Wheatley, art director in the Office of Communications and Marketing, and a team of students in the University’s Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management.

To participate, parents can visit the registration site and submit a request form. Hotel staff will respond with full information about membership.

“We want to do everything we can to add to the value of our VIP program members’ visits to Newark,” Sullivan said. “We want to give them the service they deserve as UD parents.
