Newark Police investigate armed robbery on South Main Street
3:57 p.m., July 16, 2013--The Newark Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at 7:08 p.m., Monday, July 15, in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 260 South Main Street.
Police said two 18-year-old men, both University of Delaware English Language Institute students, were seated on a bench at the apartment complex entrance when they were approached by four men -- one displaying a handgun. The men in the group demanded their belongings.
The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of currency, two cell phones and a passport and were last seen running toward Madison Drive.
Newark Police and a University of Delaware Police Department K9 team responded but the suspects were not located.
All four were described as black males, with the man carrying the handgun about 15-25 years old, 5-feet 8-inches to 6-feet tall, of thin build, and wearing a gray T-shirt and basketball shorts. The second suspect was 13-15, about 5-feet to 5-feet 2-inches tall, heavyset and was wearing gray or black shorts. The third suspect was 20-25, about 6-feet tall and of thin build, and had an orange shirt or towel wrapped around his head. The fourth suspect was 15-18 and 5-feet 8-inches tall, with a thin build.
