Annual UD Alumni Day at Dewey Beach to feature food, music


10:08 a.m., July 26, 2013--University of Delaware Alumni Day at Dewey Beach will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, with activities beginning at 2 p.m. and continuing until 5 p.m.

This will be the fifth year for the event, which will feature food, music and prizes.

Summer scholars

Two undergraduates from Florida A&M University are conducting summer research at UD at the invitation of the Delaware Environmental Institute.

Marine science interns

This summer, a group of students from universities around the country congregated in Lewes to perform their own research projects under UD faculty.

Cost is $15 per person and Alumni Day at Dewey is for those 21 and older only. For details and to register, click here.

Additional alumni activities are as follows:

Saturday, Aug. 3, 1 p.m.: New student send-off in Pittsburgh. Alumni will welcome incoming freshmen and new UD graduates during a picnic.

Saturday, Aug. 3, 5:30 p.m.: Baltimore Blue Hens. A crab feast honoring incoming freshmen from Baltimore and new UD graduates moving to the city will be held at Oregon Ridge State Park.

Saturday, Aug. 3, 6:35 p.m.: Baseball series: Salisbury. The alumni summer baseball series continues at Arthur Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md., home of the Delmarva Shorebirds. There will be a buffet and fireworks.

Sunday, Aug. 11, 11 a.m.: Baseball series: San Francisco. Alumni will gather at AT&T Park in San Francisco for a baseball game between the Giants and the Baltimore Orioles. There also will be brunch at Ironside.

Sunday, Aug. 11, 1:30 p.m.: Legacy student send-off. New legacy students in the Class of 2017 and their families are invited to a tour of UD’s new Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Lab (ISE Lab) while enjoying UDairy Creamery ice cream.

Sunday, Aug. 11, 3 p.m.: New student send-off in Philadelphia. Alumni, students and families are invited to Bourbon Blue to send off freshmen in the Class of 2017.

Thursday, Aug. 15, 5:30 p.m.: Seattle WNBA game. Alumni are invited to a WNBA contest and pregame reception as the Seattle Storm play host to the Chicago Sky and Blue Hens great Elena Delle Donne.

Thursday, Aug. 15, 6 p.m.: Baseball series: Richmond. Alumni can bring the whole family to Richmond’s Diamond to cheer on the Flying Squirrels and enjoy a picnic dinner and free access to the HCA Kid's Zone.

Sunday, Aug. 18, 3:30 p.m.: Baseball series: Long Island. Blue Hens are invited to a day at Bethpage Ballpark in Islip, N.Y., to cheer on the 2012 Atlantic League champions, the Long Island Ducks. Alumni can come early to enjoy a picnic buffet.

Sunday, Aug. 25, 11:30 a.m.: Baseball series: New York. The summer baseball series will continue as the New York Mets host the Detroit Tigers. Alumni can enjoy private space in Modell’s Clubhouse.

Tuesday, Aug. 27, 5 p.m.: Baseball series: Boston. UD alumni will gather at Fenway Park, where the Red Sox will host the Baltimore Orioles. There will be a pregame reception at nearby Bertucci’s.

Thursday, Aug. 29, 7 p.m.: Bethlehem, Pa., concert. Blue Hens are invited to a free outdoor concert in Bethlehem, Pa., featuring four-time Grammy nominee Cedric Wilson and his band Bijou Creole.

Saturday, Aug. 31, 1 p.m.: Baseball series: Chicago. Alumni in the Chicago area are invited to Wrigley Field, where the Cubs will host the Philadelphia Phillies. There will be a buffet lunch at Rockit Burger Bar in Wrigleyville.
