Jan. 22-23: Syllabus clinic

CTAL, ATS offer 'syllabus clinic' for University faculty members

TEXT SIZE

10:10 a.m., Jan. 6, 2014--University of Delaware faculty members who are preparing for the spring semester are invited to drop-in to a syllabus clinic that will be offered Jan. 22-23 by colleagues from the Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning (CTAL) and Academic Technology Services (ATS).

CTAL and ATS representatives will assist faculty members in enhancing what a syllabus communicates about course expectations to students. Faculty members might consider outlining a course, its goals, methods and assessments via a graphic, such as one featured in the Chronicle of Higher Education, as well as in more traditional ways.

FYI Stories

'Contactless' ONEcard

The UD ID card will be replaced by the ONEcard, which incorporates a chip and features a new technology initiative called "contactless," meaning the card can be placed near a reader device rather than swiped.

Food Bank boost

University of Delaware Parking Services' monthlong food drive program, in which motorists could make donations to pay parking citations, provided over 6,000 nonperishable food items to the Food Bank of Delaware.

Questions and curiosity about pedagogically appropriate integration of technology, social media and Sakai and or Canvas tools into courses will be addressed by ATS colleagues.

Faculty members can stop by the CTAL office, 212 Gore Hall, to chat over refreshments and check out the library. No appointment is needed.

For additional information on syllabus resources, see the CTAL website.

Syllabus clinic dates and times

The clinic is offered at different times on two consecutive days to accommodate busy schedules and give faculty members dedicated time for syllabus refinement prior to the spring semester.

  • Wednesday, Jan. 22, 9 a.m. to noon; and
  • Thursday, Jan. 23, 1-4 p.m.

For further information, contact the CTAL office at 302-831-2027 or send email to ctal-info@udel.edu.
