Unsung Hero

The One Love Foundation has announced that University of Delaware men's lacrosse standout Elijah Conte has been selected as a winner of the 2016 YRL Unsung Hero Award.

The University of Delaware is the No. 8 seed in the men's tournament, and will play against No. 9 Minot State at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 8.

The men's tournament will be held at UD's Fred Rust Ice Arena from March 6-11, and the women's Division 1 and Division 2 is set March 13-16 in UD's  Rust and Gold ice arenas.

The single-elimination men’s tournament will consist of 20 teams, made up of between 20-25 players, while the women play a round robin pool play tournament on March 13-14, with the semifinals taking place on March 15 and the championship games on March 16.

Bruce Thompson, assistant director of Recreation Services at UD, said it’s an honor to have the ACHA championships return to the University. "We are thrilled that our programs will have a chance to compete on a national stage in front of our own fans," Thompson said.

The men’s Division 1 national championship rotates to different schools each year, and was last hosted at UD in 2011. This is the first time UD will be the site of the women’s event and the first time in the tournament's history that one school has hosted both the men's and women's international championships.

In 2012, the men’s tournament was held in Cleveland, with UD emerging as the national champion in a 5-1 victory over Oakland University.

Ticket prices for the men's championship games (March 6-10) are $15 for adults, $7 for children ages 6-17 and free for children age 5 and under, per day. The final championship game on March 11 will be $10 for adults and $5 for children. UD students are free with their ID.
