VoIP telephone update
University's VoIP conversion delayed until end of September
1:45 p.m., Aug. 26, 2013--University of Delaware Telephone Services has announced that the conversion to the new VoIP system originally scheduled for mid-August has been delayed.
The conversion is accomplished by "porting" the 302-831-xxxx and 302-837-xxxx telephone numbers from Verizon (UD’s current telephone company) to Windstream (UD’s new telephone company).

Due to the complexity of the "porting" process and other considerations, the "port date" has been delayed until the end of September. Once an actual date for the porting event has been confirmed it will be announced to the campus.
On the day of “porting,” telephone numbers will be migrated, one by one, from Verizon to Windstream. As numbers are ported, inbound calls will start arriving on the new VoIP telephones and, at some subsequent time, it will no longer be possible to place outgoing calls using your previous telephone.
Faculty and staff are reminded that until the entire campus is “cut over” to the new VoIP phone service, existing Centrex phone service continues in its entirety, handling incoming calls, outgoing calls and voice mail. Until the “cut over,” the new VoIP phones will only function for outgoing calls and voice mail for calls received from other VoIP phones.
