UD sets extended hours, locations for services during move-in weekend

3:11 p.m., Aug. 19, 2013--Members of the Class of 2017 will move in on Saturday, Aug. 24, with other new and returning students to follow. Blue Hen Helpers will be on hand to assist students and their families. For key move-in information, see the Residence Life and Housing move-in guide.

Also during move-in weekend, many UD offices and departments will offer special hours and services through the weekend.

All UD faculty and staff members are invited to attend the annual UDid It! employee appreciation picnic, set from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Monday, June 6, on The Green.

1743 Welcome Days

A variety of activities are being planned during move-in weekend as part of 1743 Welcome Days, including a comedy show, an inspirational talk and an activities fair.

Buses

Saturday, Aug. 24: Weekend Route 1 will run from 12:10 p.m.-6:10 p.m.; Evening Route 1 will run from 6:10 p.m.-10:10 p.m. Late Bird will run from 10:10 p.m.-2:25 a.m.

Sunday, Aug. 25: Weekend Route 2 will run from 12:10 p.m.-6:10 p.m.; Evening Route 2 will run from 6:10 p.m.-10:10 p.m. Late Bird will run from 10:10 p.m.-2:25 a.m.

Dining

Dining Services will open the fall semester with lunch being the first meal served to new students in dining halls on Saturday, Aug. 24. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rodney, Russell and Pencader dining halls. 

Kent Dining Hall will be closed for lunch but will open later for a “Meet and Eat” event from 4-6 p.m.

The “Meet and Eat” events also will be held from 4-7:30 p.m. in Rodney, 4-7 p.m. in Russell and 5-7:30 p.m. in Pencader.

Also that day, complimentary light refreshments will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Scrounge Café in the Perkins Student Center, the Rodney Dining Hall lobby and P103 Pencader Dining Hall on the lower level. Outdoor grills will be available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, at the George Read complex and the Rodney complex.

On Sunday, Aug. 25, breakfast and dinner will be served for new and returning students in Rodney, Russell, Pencader and Kent. 

The regular fall dining schedule will begin on Monday, Aug. 26.

ID cards

If you still need to get your University i-card, the ID Office, located in the Student Services Building at 30 Lovett Ave. will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24. Call 302-831-2759 for more information. 

IT support

IT staff will be available to assist students in the residence halls during 1743 Welcome Days, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24; and from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 25.  

Locations include George Read North Commons, Redding Commons and Rodney A//B Lounge. 

Students can contact IT in the usual ways -- the Help Request linked from IT’s website and from the IT Support Center “help” website; by telephone at 302-831-6000 and by text message at 302-722-6820.

The IT Support Center will be staffed from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 25. At any time, students also can submit a help request, leave voice mail or send a text message. 

IT staff can help students connect their computers to UD's wired network (Ethernet), connect their printers (USB cable), and connect computers, tablets, xBoxes, other gaming devices, iPods, smart phones, etc., to UD's wireless network. Staff also will be available to help with email issues, anti-virus software, cable TV and other tech issues. 

Package centers

Packages sent to UD in advance of student move-in can be picked up the main package center in Room 156 of the Trabant University Center from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, and from 8 a.m.-noon on Sunday, Aug. 25. Call 302-831-4381.

For those living on the Laird Campus, packages can be picked up at Christiana Commons.

Parking

For move-in, follow directions from Public Safety officers and Parking Services representatives to find the closest parking for each residence hall.

Note that there are varying restrictions at each housing complex. Vehicles are permitted to park in driveways adjacent to residence halls for up to 30 minutes during move-in but may not be in fire lanes and must be attended.

Also, be alert as to whether you are parking on the University campus or the property within the city of Newark.

Student Financial Services

Student Financial Services will have availability for walk-in advisement appointments at the Student Services Building at 30 Lovett Ave. from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24. 

Student Health Services

Student Health Services will open at 8 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, and will remain open 24/7 while residence halls are open.

University Bookstore

The Barnes and Noble University Bookstore, located at 83 East Main St., will be open from 9 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23-24, and from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 25. Call 302-831-2637 for more information.
