Courtyard Newark to host guest bartender competition


11:53 a.m., Aug. 12, 2013--The Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware will hold a guest bartending fundraiser, "Battle of the Bars," from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16, to benefit the Newark Police K-9 fund and the Downtown Newark Partnership. 

Four local restaurant teams -- Catherine Rooney's, the Deer Park Tavern, Klondike Kate's and Taverna -- will compete to raise the most tips and drink sales, as well as bragging rights and the "Paco Cup," named in memory of Newark's first K-9 officer.

Oct. 8: Black Lives Matter

UD's Department of Black American Studies will present a lecture by James Braxton Peterson of Lehigh University on the Black Lives Matter movement at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Trabant University Center Theatre.

Oct. 9: Glow Night

Perkins Live will host a Glow Night event on Friday, Oct. 9.

This year, the Bartender Olympics will pit bartenders against each other in athletic and entertaining competition, with the winners receiving bonuses from their competitors' tip jars. 

Paul Cullen will provide live entertainment, donated by Courtyard Newark. 

This is the fourth year for the event.
