Department of Philosophy sets undergraduate writing contest

1:20 p.m., April 15, 2014--The University of Delaware Department of Philosophy is sponsoring a student writing contest, which is open to all UD undergraduates.

The deadline for the contest, in which students are asked to write opinion pieces of about 500 words, is Thursday, May 1. Two winners will receive $500 each.

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Entrants should write an opinion piece defending a view on any ethical issue, with one entry per student.

Entries should be sent in Word of PDF format to kai@udel.edu.

Entries will be judged by philosophy faculty looking for the best argument in defense of the most interesting ethical view.

Winners will be announced Friday, May 9, on the philosophy department website.

The contest is provided financial support by the Class of 1955 Ethics Endowment Fund.
