Class of 2016 can show school spirit through T-shirt swap at Blue Hen Games

10:58 a.m., April 23, 2014--Members of the Class of 2016 can show their school spirit and update their wardrobes at the same time through a special sophomore class T-shirt swap and Blue Hen Games, scheduled on Wednesday, May 7, on the North Green.

The event will run from 4-6 p.m. and is sponsored by the UD Alumni Association (UDAA) and the UD Student Alumni Ambassadors (UDSAAs).

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The UDAA Class of 2016 banner will be on display and class members who have yet to sign it will have the chance to do so. 

The first 1,000 sophomores who visit the UDAA table and show their Blue Hens Forever pride by bringing a T-shirt from another college or university -- or just a shirt they no long want -- will receive a Class of 2016 shirt from the UDAA and SAAs. All shirts collected at the event will be donated to charity.

Members of the Cass of 2016 can also register to take part in the Blue Hen Games, which consists of two rounds of competition. Round one is a four-leg relay race and round two is a tug-o-war, a revived tradition from UD in the 1950s. Sixty-four teams can compete in round one and 16 teams will move on to compete in round two. 

Each team will be made up of four members of the Class of 2016 and each person who participates will be guaranteed their choice of size for the Class of 2016 T-shirt. 

Each member of the overall winning team of will receive a $50 Main Street gift card and the each member of the second place team will receive gift cards to restaurants on Main Street. 

Each team must designate a team captain and come up with a team name. Each team captain must pre-register their four-member team at this website. Two-person teams will be paired up with other pre-registered two-person teams. 

All registrations must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. on Monday, May 5, and require the name, email address and preferred T-shirt size for all members of the team as well as a team name. Every participant will be required to complete an assumption of risk and release form and bring it with them on May 7 before participating in the Blue Hen Games. 

Students will also be able to enjoy snacks, DJ Amaze, a make-and-take sponsored by the UDSAAs, information from UDAA partners Kaplan Test Prep and Lang Development Group, and more. All are encouraged to cheer on the games and join in on the fun.

Should inclement weather force the postponement of the event, it will be held on Wednesday, May 14, at the same location.
