UD alumni invited to attend symposium on art, science

8:52 a.m., April 18, 2014--University of Delaware alumni are invited to the inaugural “Art and Science: Connections and Intersections” symposium on the relationships among arts, science and technology.

The event, which is organized by the Department of Art History, the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory (ISE Lab) and the Friends of Art History, will be held from 1-6 p.m., Friday, April 25, at ISE Lab.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

Presentations will circulate around this year’s theme of the “Interpretation of Images, Objects, and Data,” and will address the exchanges that occur in interdisciplinary research; the intersections of sciences and culture in historical contexts; and potential areas of collaboration and convergence between scholars working inside the academy and professionals operating outside, in arts, business, and technology environments.

Thursday, April 24, 6 p.m.: Second Harvest in Lehigh Valley. A Second Harvest happy hour and food drive will be held at Boston’s Restaurant and Sports Bar in Allentown, Pa.

Friday, April 25, 10:30 a.m.: Friends of UD Lacrosse golf. UD alumni, friends and family are invited to the 10th annual Friends of UD Lacrosse golf outing to be held at Deerfield in Newark. The event benefits the Blue Hens men’s lacrosse program.

Friday, April 25, 5 p.m.: Alumni Baseball Series/Arizona. Blue Hens are invited to watch as the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Philadelphia Phillies at Chase Field.

Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m.: New Castle Dare to Care. The New Castle County Alumni Club encourages Blue Hens to join hands in a volunteer effort at the Food Bank of Delaware.

Monday, April 28, 6:30 p.m.: DC Dare to Care. Alumni will volunteer to assist the DC Books to Prison Project, which has as its mission adding humanity to the lives of people who are incarcerated.

Tuesday, April 29, 6:30 p.m.: Boston alumni reception with Pat Harker. In a special evening sponsored by the Boston Alumni Club, UD President Patrick Harker will speak on “UD and You: Past, Present and Future.”

Thursday, May 1, 6:30 p.m.: Engineers Without Borders benefit dinner. The UD Chapter of Engineers Without Borders will hold its annual benefit dinner and silent auction at the Newark Country Club.

Friday, May 2, 8:30 a.m.: Ricky B Memorial Golf. The 13th annual Ricky Barbour Memorial Golf Outing will be held at Chisel Creek Golf Club in Landenberg, Pa.

Saturday, May 3, 7:30 a.m.: Philadelphia Dare to Care. Blue Hens in the Philadelphia area will help the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter of the National MS Society with registration for Walk MS in Philadelphia.

Saturday, May 3, 9 a.m.: Lancaster Dare to Care. The Lancaster County (Pa.) Alumni Club will conduct a cleanup of the Turkey Hill Overlook Trail, followed by coffee and sandwiches at Javaville Café in Millersville.

Saturday, May 3, 9 a.m.: Pittsburgh Dare to Care. The Pittsburgh Alumni Club will work with the South Hills Interfaith Ministries community garden, which supports a good bank.

Saturday, May 3, 5:30 p.m.: Alumni Baseball Series/Miami. South Florida alumni invited fellow Blue Hens to join them for a baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Miami Marlins at Marllins Park.

Monday, May 5, 5:30 p.m.: Alumni Baseball Series/Philadelphia. Blue Hens are invited to watch as the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Monday, May 5, 5:45 p.m.: New York Dare to Care. The New York City Alumni Club will participate in a City Harvest event to “rescue” produce donations at the close of the Union Square Greenmarket. The produce will be distributed to emergency food programs throughout the city.

Wednesday, May 7, 6:30 p.m.: Art History Graduate Student Lecture Series. Alumni are invited to the Wayne Craven Lecture, as S. Hollis Clayson of Northwestern University speaks on “Episodes from the Visual Culture of Electric Paris.”

Thursday, May 8, 6 p.m.: Lancaster happy hour. Alumni will meet for happy hour at the Lancaster Brewing Company.

Friday, May 9, 9 a.m.: Sigma Phi Epsilon. The brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon will hold a golf outing and lunch at Deerfield Golf Club in Newark.

Friday, May 9: Mechanical engineering event. UD’s Department of Mechanical Engineering invites alumni to a Career Celebration and Senior Appreciation event at Clayton Hall.

Saturday, May 10, 6:30 p.m.: Dad Vail Regatta. The UD Men’s Crew Alumni Association will host fellow Blue Hens at a special tent at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.

June 6-8: Alumni Weekend.
