11:48 a.m., April 30, 2014--Volunteers are needed to help at the University of Delaware's Spring Commencement ceremony, scheduled on Saturday, May 31, in Delaware Stadium.

Each year volunteer marshals and ushers play a crucial role in this important ceremony that celebrates the academic achievements of the graduating class.

Library turnstiles

A new security measure aimed at providing better protection for UD students, faculty and staff and members of the larger community who use the Morris Library is now active.

First Friday Roundtable

The First Friday Roundtable session on Feb. 12 will review UD's teaching and learning grants.

This year's speaker will be U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, and many additional volunteers are needed because of increased security measures and expected high attendance.

"Those who facilitate the workings of commencement -- the marshals and the ushers -- all serve as volunteers. Without their service and sacrifice of time, it would be impossible to conduct these ceremonies with the necessary style and efficiency," said Jeff Garland, vice president and University secretary.

To sign up as a volunteer for the 2014 Spring Commencement, contact Ian Janssen in University Archives and Records Management at ijanssen@udel.edu or Kim DeShields in the Office of the Vice President and University Secretary at kimd@udel.edu as soon as possible.
