Sept. 20: Vigil for slain ambassador

Muslim Students Association plans vigil on The Green

4:52 p.m., Sept. 19, 2012--The Muslim Students Association at the University, along with the Delaware Muslim community, is organizing a vigil for U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, who was killed in Libya with three other Americans on Sept. 11.

The vigil will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20, on the north side of Memorial Hall on The Green on the Newark campus.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

In a release, the event organizers said, "Ambassador Stevens played a vital role in supporting the Libyan people during their struggle against the former dictator Gaddafi and was a strong presence in the most recent months in Libya. We stand together as a community to make it known that those who took part in these tragic events do not represent the Libyan people nor do they represent Muslims worldwide." 

The Sept. 20 event is cosponsored by the Graduate Muslim Students Association at UD, as well as the Islamic Society of Delaware, Zakat Foundation of America, Tarbiyah School of Delaware, Islamic Academy of Delaware, Masjid Al Kauthar, Glasgow Muslim Community Center, Masjid Isa lbn-e-Maryam, Circle of Hands and the Delaware Valley Speakers Bureau.
