Housing Assignment Services sets second annual room decorating contest

7:54 a.m., Sept. 19, 2012--University of Delaware Housing Assignment Services has announced that it will give away up to $500 in Visa gift cards in its second annual From Floor to Wall residence hall room decorating contest for on-campus housing residents.

Students are invited to enter and show how they have personalized their residence hall rooms. "Whether you’re an expert at maximizing space or an excellent interior decorator, we want to see how you’ve transformed your space on campus," said Vanessa McClafferty, assignment coordinator for Housing Assignment Services.

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

To enter, students should submit a photo to Housing Assignment Services by Monday, Oct. 1. All entries should be submitted via email to ud-housing@udel.edu with the following information:

  • Floor to Wall photo (limited to one photo per entrant);
  • Names of all entrants;
  • Student ID numbers; and
  • Residence hall complex.

Winners will be selected from the following categories:

  • Best Residence Hall Room (singles, doubles, and suites);
  • Best Extended Housing Room;
  • Most Decorative Apartment; and
  • Most Inviting RA Room (Resident Assistant room).

For winning rooms, each resident listed on the entry will be awarded a $50 Visa gift card.

Housing Assignment Services reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not comply with the contest guidelines, so be sure to review the rules before entering.

All entries will be posted on the Blue Hen Says Facebook page on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Students will be able to vote by "liking" each photo, so be sure to vote and spread the word. 

Voting will end at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10. The photo in each category with the most likes will win.
