Alumni invited to return to campus for Homecoming Weekend 2012

9:11 a.m., Sept. 21, 2012--Homecoming Weekend 2012 is drawing near, with University of Delaware alumni encouraged to return to campus and get in the Fightin’ Blue Hen spirit.

Homecoming will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 19, through Sunday, Oct. 21, with dozens of fun events across campus plus several new traditions. Events include Blue Hens on Main, the presentation of the Presidential Citation for Outstanding Achievement, a pep rally and a spirit celebration.

The University of Delaware's Nii Attoh-Okine recently published a new book with Cambridge University Press, "Resilience Engineering: Models and Analysis."

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

In Saturday’s Homecoming football game, the Hens will take on the University of Rhode Island in a Colonial Athletic Association contest. Kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 28, 1 p.m.: Materials Science and Engineering barbeque. UD Department of Materials Science and Engineering alumni, students, employees and friends are invited to a barbeque in Newark to celebrate the fall semester.

Sunday, Sept. 30, 8 a.m.: UD Alumni at NASCAR in Dover. Blue Hens will gather for a day at Dover Downs International Speedway during the AAA 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Hospitality, tickets and exclusive access area included.

Tuesday, Oct. 2, 5 a.m.: UD Nursing Alumni and member appreciation event. The UD Nursing Alumni Association and the Beta Xi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau will hold a special event at which alumni can catch up with friends, colleagues, faculty and community nurse leaders. There will be refreshments, music, networking and door prizes.

Saturday, Oct. 6, noon: Blue Hen Fall Fun at T.S. Smith and Sons Farm. The Kent and Sussex Counties Alumni Club will present a day of fall fun, food and apple picking at the 800-acre farm of T.S. Smith and Sons in Bridgeville, which is co-owned by UD graduates Tom and Charlie Smith.

Saturday, Oct. 6, 4:30 p.m.: College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment reunion picnic and lecture. College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment alumni, faculty and students are invited to a special event at the Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes, where they can meet Mark Moline, the new director of the School of Marine Science and Policy.

Saturday, Oct. 6, 6 p.m.: UD Dietetics Program alumni reception. Blue Hens will gather for an alumni reception at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ 2012 Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo in Philadelphia.

Sunday, Oct. 7, 10 a.m.: CEOE Coast Day alumni and VIP breakfast. College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment alumni and their families will get together for a special breakfast at Coast Day at the Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes.

Saturday, Oct. 13, 10:30 a.m.: Lancaster Alumni Club hike and tour of Rock Ford. Lancaster alumni and their families are planning an easy to moderate hike at Lancaster County Park, followed by a picnic lunch on the porch of Rock Ford Plantation and a tour of the house.

Saturday, Oct. 13, 11 a.m.: UD Central Florida Alumni at Winter Park Autumn Art Festival. Blue Hens will gather for brunch before enjoying the Winter Park Autumn Art Festival in central Florida.
