To register for the Main Street Mile, visit www.mainstmile.com. Preregistration is $18 through Sept. 29, and registration after Sept. 29 is $22. Day of race registration will be held from 7-7:45 a.m., Oct. 6, at Fusion Fitness in Market East Plaza.
The annual fundraiser is an important source of funding for the Newark K-9 Unit. The cost of the K-9 unit can total thousands of dollars, including the cost of training, food and incidentals. Newark first K-9, Paco, was retired last September due to a health issue, and funds raised from the Main Street Mile helped purchase, train and set up a kennel for his replacement.
The Main Street Mile is sponsored by the Downtown Newark Partnership, Newark Police Department, Fusion Fitness Center, Rittenhouse Station, Deer Park Tavern and New Balance.
