8:27 a.m., Oct. 16, 2012--Larry L. Carr, who has been with University of Delaware campus radio station WVUD 91.3FM for more than two decades, will be presented the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington’s Diocesan Medal of Merit Award by the Most Rev. W. Francis Malooly on Sunday, Oct. 21.

In addition to working with WVUD, Carr also has been heavily involved in volunteering at the Thomas More Oratory, the home of Catholic Ministry at the University. He will be honored for his outstanding and faithful service to the parish and the diocese.

Honors Stories

National Medal of Science

President Barack Obama recently presented the National Medal of Science to University of Delaware alumnus Rakesh Jain.

Warren Award

Rosalind Johnson, assistant dean for student success in the NUCLEUS Program in UD's College of Arts and Sciences, was presented the John Warren Excellence in Leadership and Service Award during a May 26 ceremony.

Steve Kramarck, WVUD station manager, says that Carr’s receipt of such a prestigious award is not at all surprising. “Anyone who knows Larry knows that he is a remarkable person,” Kramarck said. “His willingness to help any organization to which he belongs is a most exceptional trait. Larry is truly a selfless person, and the University Student Centers -- and WVUD -- are delighted to see him honored for all that he does.”

Ever since a chance meeting with WVUD staffers during a walk down Academy Street, Carr has been a fixture at the WVUD station. Currently, he serves as a classical disc jockey and a member of the Operations Board.

In 2010, Carr was inducted into the WVUD Hall of Fame, where his plaque explains simply that “his love of music and of his community is evident in every moment.”
