UD's United Way employee campaign holds 'Days of Caring' event at ECC
9:54 a.m., Nov. 13, 2012--The University of Delaware’s 2012 United Way employee campaign participated in its first “Days of Caring” project on Friday, Nov. 2, with a crew working at Exceptional Care for Children (ECC), Delaware’s only 24-hour skilled pediatric nursing facility.
UD’s volunteers were given a landscape project and helped clean up leaves and debris from the recent storms. Once the project was completed, the volunteers were given a tour of the facility.

Since opening its doors in 2006, ECC has been delivering a new and innovative model of care to children who are medically fragile and have technology dependencies. This facility is home to 27 children who otherwise would have to live in a hospital. The ages range from 5 months to 19 years old, and each child is provided with his or her own room. The staff and volunteers provide these very special children with an atmosphere as close to a home environment as possible. Some children transition and are able to return home while others do not.
