8:04 a.m., May 8, 2013--For the second year in a row, the University of Delaware has set ambitious goals to strengthen the entire campus community by means of the 2013-14 "Rising to the Challenge" Faculty and Staff Campaign. During the campaign, faculty and staff unite to achieve goals that will benefit students, employees and the community.

"Rising to the Challenge" aims to build on the momentum of last year's campaign, which raised nearly $1 million from 25 percent of UD faculty and staff. The two-year goal of the campaign is $2 million in gifts and 50 percent participation from faculty and staff donors.

The 2013-14 campaign is being driven at the college and departmental level, with volunteers in each of UD’s seven colleges and in other departments and centers.

“The campaign last year was a remarkable accomplishment,” said Monica Taylor, vice president for development and alumni relations. “It is inspiring to see faculty and staff from across the University show their commitment to UD through this campaign, and we hope that support will continue to grow this year.”

“Not only will $2 million in gifts from UD faculty and staff over these two years have a lasting impact on the University, its students and its programs, but it is also a powerful testament to this University that so many faculty and staff feel it is imperative to support UD beyond their commitment as an employee,” Taylor said.

Many faculty and staff often make gifts to support the unrestricted fund in their college or unit, but are welcome to make contributions to any of the University’s 2,000 designations.

Everyone is encouraged to support colleges, departments or programs that mean the most to them at the University. Every gift counts toward the overall participation and dollar goals and is an investment in the future of UD.

Giving to UD is both rewarding and easy. The most convenient way to contribute is by payroll deduction. The form is located online. Once processed, the specified amount will be deducted from each pay, and there are no additional forms or paperwork.

A gift of just $42 per pay will confer membership in the Delaware Diamonds Society, a recognition society for donors who give at least $1,000 annually (July 1-June 30).

For $21 per pay, a staff or faculty member will provide generous opportunities at $500 per year to the program of their choice. Gifts of any size are appreciated and will make an impact.
