University Board of Trustees approves promotions for 39 faculty members

11:26 a.m., May 10, 2013--The University of Delaware Board of Trustees approved promotions for 39 faculty members at its spring meeting May 7. All are effective Sept. 1.

Seventeen faculty members were promoted to full professor with tenure, 17 to associate professor with tenure, four to associate professor without tenure, and one associate professor was given tenure.

Authors Series

University of Delaware alumnus and investigative reporter Charles Lewis discussed his book "935 Lies: The Future of Truth and the Decline of American Moral Integrity" as part of the Delaware Diamonds Society Authors Series.

Intensive training

UD Police Officer Patrick McCloskey is one of nine Delaware law enforcement officers to complete an intensive training course to become a certified drug recognition expert.

Promoted to professor were Katharina Billups, marine science and policy; Jacob Bowman, entomology and wildlife ecology; Martin Brückner, English; Jorge Cubillos, foreign languages and literatures; Rachel Davidson, civil and environmental engineering; Judith Herrman, nursing; Shreeram Inamdar, plant and soil sciences; Victor Kaliakin, civil and environmental engineering; Aaron Kupchik, sociology and criminal justice; Arwen Mohun, history; Branislav Nikolic, physics and astronomy; Joel Pust, philosophy; Marianna Safronova, physics and astronomy; Laura Salsini, foreign languages and literatures; Francisco Javier Sayas Gonzalez, mathematical sciences; Carl Schmidt, animal and food sciences; and Chien-Chung Shen, computer and information sciences.

Promoted to associate professor with tenure were Maciek Antoniewicz, chemical and biomolecular engineering; David Brinley, art; John Cavazos, computer and information sciences; Matthew DeCamp, physics and astronomy; Matthew Doty, materials science and engineering; Tanya Gressley, animal and food sciences; Michal Herzenstein, business administration; Lindsay Hoffman, communication; Chrysanthi Leon, sociology and criminal justice; Steven Most, psychology; Michelle Parent, medical laboratory sciences; Ashley Pigford, art; Ingrid Pretzer-Aboff, nursing; Millicent Sullivan, chemical and biomolecular engineering; Bruce Tychinski, music; Zhihao Zhuang, chemistry and biochemistry; and Joshua Zide, materials science and engineering.

Promoted to associate professor without tenure were Terrence Harvey, computer and information sciences; Jennifer Nauen, biological sciences; Thomas Powers, philosophy; and Harvey Price, music.

Awarded tenure was Rena Hallam, associate professor of human development and family studies.
