Courtyard Newark announces graduation buffet, barbecue

10:10 a.m., May 9, 2013--The Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware campus hotel is offering several special events in late May, including a graduation buffet on Saturday, May 25.

The graduation buffet, held in conjunction with UD’s 164th Commencement scheduled that morning at Delaware Stadium, will have two seatings, at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Cost is $29 for adults, $16.95 for seniors and $9.95 for children 12 and younger. Reservations are required; call 302-737-0900.

The graduation buffet will feature bay-seasoned shrimp, hand-carved black angus beef, chicken with asparagus tips in a prosciutto cream sauce, roasted pork loin stuffed with sun dried fruit with a calvados glaze, brown sugar chipotle salmon with blueberry glaze, roasted potatoes, wild mushroom risotto, salads, fresh garden vegetables and assorted desserts and mini-pastries.

Also, from 5-9 p.m., Friday, May 24, the hotel will hold a courtyard barbecue. Cost is $22 for adults and $9.95 for children 12 and younger.

The menu includes jalapeno cheddar corn bread, porchetta, grilled barbecue chicken, grilled international sausages, hot dogs, hamburgers, fresh mussels, fried clams, potato salad, basmati rice, corn on the cob, spinach salad and desserts.
