Blue Hens helping new Hens
Residence Life and Housing renames Arrival Survival Team, seeks volunteers
1:48 p.m., May 3, 2013--Residence Life and Housing at the University of Delaware is looking for volunteers to help new students move into residence halls on Saturday, Aug. 24.
Traditionally called the Arrival Survival Team, this year’s volunteers will be helping welcome new students and their families to campus under a new name. The new student move-in volunteers will now be called Blue Hen Helpers.
Flexible classrooms, successful students
Trustees to meet
Residence Life has been offering this service campus-wide to incoming first year students since 1994, after assuming responsibility from Sigma Chi fraternity, which initially developed the team as a service project to assist the first year students in the Dickinson Complex.
Blue Hen Helpers assist new students and families move their luggage and other belongings into their residence hall rooms on new student check-in day. The helpers are the first to extend a warm welcome to new students and their families and begin to build the strong and positive community that enhances every student’s living and learning experience.
Blue Hen Helpers can be students, staff, faculty, alumni or community members. Those students who are living on campus who want to volunteer can move into their residence halls early on Aug. 22 from 5-9 p.m. and receive a 50 percent per night discount on their early check-in fee.
Sign up is available online at the Blue Hen Helpers website.
Those who have questions can contact Linda Wooters in Residence Life and Housing at email@example.com or by calling 302-831-8423.
Additionally, during move-in days, faculty members are invited to visit residence halls to interact with both parents and students. During this time, faculty members will have an opportunity to welcome new students to campus, and answer any general campus and classroom questions. See the website for more information.
For interested faculty, a residence life liaison and residence hall tour will be provided before move in day.
To sign up, or to find more information about the role faculty members can play on move-in day and after, contact Siobhan May, student engagement coordinator in Residence Life and Housing, at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at 302-832-0699.
