5:28 p.m., May 29, 2013--Newark Police have arrested of Patrick J. Mattix, 35, of Elkton, Md., in connection with multiple robberies in the city of Newark during the month of May.

He has been charged in connection with a May 13 robbery at the PNC Bank ATM machine in the Fairfield Shopping Center, a May 17 robbery at the Dominos Pizza Store on East Cleveland Avenue and the May 22 robbery at the T-Mobile Store on East Delaware Avenue.

While investigating the May 22 robbery, Newark detectives obtained surveillance footage of a man in the area just before the robbery, as well as footage of a black Chevrolet Cavalier leaving the area. Approximately 20 minutes after the T-Mobile robbery, the victim's credit card was used at the Wawa convenience store on Fletchwood Road in Elkton. Detectives obtained video surveillance from the Wawa where the same person in the T-Mobile footage was observed entering the store. The same vehicle from the T-Mobile robbery also was seen on the Wawa surveillance camera.

A Newark Police officer positively identified the man at Mattix, and police linked him to the black Cavalier seen in the footage. After surveillance by Newark Police and Maryland State Police, he was taken into custody on May 28. He was arrested and arraigned through JP Court #11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Facility in lieu of $259,000 cash bail.

Mattix was charged with four counts of first degree robbery, three counts of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony and one count of theft under $1,500.

He also has been linked to two additional robberies in Maryland State Police jurisdiction, and warrants are on file for his arrest by that agency. In addition, detectives are looking for possible connections with other robberies.
