University prepares to welcome 4,000 Hens for Alumni Weekend

9:20 a.m., May 24, 2013--University of Delaware Alumni Weekend is expected to draw more than 4,000 Blue Hens home to the Newark campus for a wide range of activities from Friday, May 31, through Sunday, June 2.

Alumni and their guests can learn about UD present and future at the annual State of the University address by President Patrick Harker, can enjoy Lunch with the Mascots --including national champion YoUDee -- on The Green, and can participate in a 5-kilometer run.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

No tickets remain for the popular Mug Night Dela-bration, which is sold out.

California Hens can participate from afar through an Alumni Weekend West event scheduled at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 1, in Santa Monica. For details, click here.

Tuesday, May 28, 6:30 p.m.: Athletics Spring Tour stops in Wilmington. The final stop on the Athletics Spring Tour, featuring Athletic Director Eric Ziady and Blue Hens coaches, will be held at Applebee’s Wilmington on Rocky Run Parkway.

Tuesday, May 28, 7 p.m.: Boston baseball watch party. The Boston Alumni Club will host a watch party at the Asgard in Cambridge as the Red Sox face the Philadelphia Phillies.

Thursday, June 6, through Sunday, June 9: Earth Perfect? symposium. Alumni are invited to attend the four-day symposium, “Earth Perfect? Nature, Utopia and the Garden” to be held at a variety of locations, including UD, Longwood Gardens and Winterthur.

Friday, June 7, 6:30 p.m.: Washington, D.C., cruise. Blue Hens are invited to a sunset happy hour cruise on the Potomac River aboard the Boomerang.

Saturday, June 8, 10 a.m.: Lewes farm event. Alumni are invited to a “Blue Hens and Holsteins” event at the Hopkins family’s Green Acres Farm and creamery in Lewes, Del. The event offers a chance to see a working dairy farm.

Sunday, June 9, 11:30 a.m.: Baseball series: Long Island. Alumni can enjoy a day at Bethpage Ballpark in Islip, N.Y., to see the 2012 Atlantic League champion Long Island Ducks take on the Maryland Blue Crabs. There will be an unlimited picnic buffet.

Sunday, June 9, 12:15 p.m.: Baseball series: Lehigh Valley. Alumni can visit Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa., to see the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs. The event will feature a pre-game picnic.

Friday, June 14, 5 p.m. Baseball series: Colorado. Blue Hens can enjoy the game at Coors Field in Denver as the Philadelphia Phillies take on the Colorado Rockies.

Thursday, June 20, 5:30 p.m.: Chicago networking. Alumni in Chicago are invited to a casual networking happy hour the third Thursday of each month.

Wednesday, June 26, 5 p.m. Baseball series: San Diego. Alumni are invited to a summer baseball series event in southern California as the San Diego Padres take on the Philadelphia Phillies at Petco Park. The will be a pregame dinner at Basic Pizza.

Saturday, June 29, 3 p.m.: Philadelphia Union soccer. Blue Hens can enjoy tailgating and soccer at PPL Park in Chester, Pa., as the Philadelphia Union takes on FC Dallas in an MLS game.

Saturday, June 29, 4:10 p.m.: Baseball series: Los Angeles. The summer baseball series will continue with alumni invited to Dodger Stadium for a picnic and game featuring the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Saturday, June 29, 5:15 p.m.: Baseball series: Baltimore. Alumni are invited to a summer baseball series event at Camden Yards, where the Baltimore Orioles will take on the New York Yankees. There will be a pregame reception at the B and O Warehouse.

Saturday, June 29, 5:30 p.m.: WNBA Chicago Sky basketball, featuring UD’s Elena Delle Donne. Alumni are invited to watch Delle Donne play a WNBA game for the Chicago Sky as the team battles the Los Angeles Sparks. Blue Hens are encouraged to wear UD gear. The ticket includes a buffet and early access to the Allstate Arena. The event is sponsored by the Chicago Alumni Club.
