Portions of the brick wall along Academy Street will be removed, followed by the removal of several trees currently in the construction area. Facilities Planning and Construction project manager Alexine Cloonan says all trees that are removed will be replaced, and a tree protection plan has been prepared for trees that remain.
Between June 3 and Aug. 22, crews will prepare the area by laying the building pad and installing utilities, including water mains, steam and electric lines.
The locations of several temporary crosswalks between both sides of Academy Street are yet to be determined.
By the start of fall 2013 semester, the fence around the area will be pulled away from Cannon, New Castle, Kent and Kent Dining Halls to allow room for students and staff as construction continues.
The Academy Street Dining and Residence Halls project, featuring a 50,000-square-foot dining hall and 100,000-square-foot residence hall complex with more than 300 beds, is scheduled for completion by fall 2015.
