HealthyU Employee Wellness Program offers spring classes

10:42 a.m., March 14, 2013--Spring brings energy and a sense of renewal, and for those who are ready to try something new, a group fitness class may be the answer, according to a wellness expert.

The University of Delaware’s HealthyU Employee Wellness program has opened registration for its Spring II employee-only fitness classes and faculty and staff may use their Wellness Dollar benefit to purchase seven weeks of programming, scheduled to begin Monday, April 1.

July UNIX Basics Series

Researchers are invited to register for a free series covering introductory topics in Unix beginning in July.

The Spring II session will continue from April 1 through Thursday, May 16.

Spring II class offerings include:

  • Beginner Taiji – A Chinese system of slow meditative physical exercise designed for relaxation and balance and health.
  • Zumba – Offering a way to burn calories and have fun, this workout combines high energy and motivating music with synchronized dance movements designed for any fitness level.
  • Step – This class consists of choreographed step patterns and is a low-impact, high intensity workout where the intensity is determined by speed, travel and execution of movement.
  • Pilates – A workout designed to develop core strength and coordination, the focus class will include traditional Pilates movement patterns, the use of breath and correct alignment. Participants will enjoy improvement in posture and overall toning.
  • Cardio Sculpt – Build muscle and burn calories with a combination of strength training, cardio intervals and plyometric exercises. Every class finishes with an abdominal set that will shape and tone the midsection and improve overall posture.
  • Butts and Guts – Incorporates a variety of exercises to tone and strengthen the entire core and lower body area.
