Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

The SGA includes three branches: executive, legislative and judicial. The executive branch includes SGA’s adviser and chief of staff, as well as the executive cabinet: student body president, executive vice president, vice president of University affairs, vice president of administration and finance, and chief justice. All five positions in the executive cabinet will be elected on April 16.

The legislative branch is led by the vice presidents of University affairs and administration and finance, and includes senators and committees for: academic affairs, residential affairs, governmental affairs, student affairs, programming, finance, and public relations. Five senators for student affairs will be elected on April 16. The last five elected positions for remaining student affairs senators (three positions are reserved for incoming freshmen) will be elected in the fall.

The judicial branch is led by the chief justice and includes two appointed associate justices. Appointments are made by the executive cabinet for some senator positions in the legislative and judicial branches, chosen from their respective units in the UD community.

All matriculated undergraduate students with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher are invited to run for one of five student affairs senator positions. All matriculated undergraduate students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher who have completed one full term in the SGA are invited to run for positions in the executive cabinet; candidates for student body president must have completed one full term as an officer in the executive cabinet.

Candidate sign-ups will take place March 18-22, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., in 218 Trabant University Center. Pamphlets detailing SGA’s structure as well as specific duties for positions and committees will be available in 218 Trabant on Friday, March 8.
