Newark Police seek public's help in locating woman in child endangerment case
Editor's Note: 10:55 a.m., March 14, 2013--Newark Police report that Catherine Allex was arrested at approximately 11 p.m., March 13, walking to her house. She was charged and released on $2,000 unsecured bond.
7:28 p.m., March 13, 2013--Newark Police are seeking the public's assistance in locating a 34-year-old Newark woman who is wanted for two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
At 7:23 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, Newark Police officers responded to report of a child left home alone at 815 North Country Club Drive in Newark. Officers located a 10-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy, both in the home by themselves.
Police report that the home was in deplorable condition, and neither child could provide information on the whereabouts of resident Catherine Allex, only stating that she was at work. Investigators have determined that she is the mother of the 11-year-old and the guardian of the 10-year-old.
The Division of Family Services assumed emergency custody of both children, and the home has subsequently been condemned by the city of Newark Building Department.
Newark Police have been unable to locate Allex. She has no known vehicle and no known family in the area. She has ties to Cape May County, New Jersey, and may be in the company of two additional children, a 9-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy.
