NSO on social media

UD's New Student Orientation welcomes students to campus, online community

2:34 p.m., June 17, 2013--This summer, the University of Delaware’s New Student Orientation (NSO) experience goes viral with UD social media.

The University maintains an active presence on a variety social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. While new students are encouraged to explore all of UD’s social media accounts, the place to start is Blue Hen Says on Facebook.

Campus Stories

Finkel to speak

David Finkel, the Pulitzer-Prize winning author of "Thank You for Your Service," will visit UD to discuss his book with freshmen as part of the 2014 First Year Common Reader Program.

End the silence

More than 300 members of the UD community, including students, faculty, staff and alumni, gathered on the steps of Memorial Hall and the nearby North Green on Sept. 19 to voice their concerns regarding sexual harassment and assault.

Blue Hen Says is UD’s social media account for students, by students, and it is where to go to stay up to date with what fellow Blue Hens are into and talking about at UD.

New Blue Hen of the Day

Students who “like” Blue Hen Says on Facebook the morning they arrive for NSO will be entered to be that day’s “NSO New Blue Hen of the Day.” Each day during lunch, a winner will be announced, given a prize, and have their picture taken to be featured on Blue Hen Says.

Twitter, Instagram and Vine users can share the excitement of NSO – which opens Tuesday, June 18, and continues to Wednesday, July 17 – by using the hashtag #UDWelcome.

Those tweets, pictures and videos will be pulled into a Storify story that will cover the beginning of the 2013-14 academic year.

Through fun campus activities and the use of social media, NSO aims to generate excitement and a sense of school pride that will thrive and last throughout the new students’ college careers.
