Baseball, Guggenheim tour highlight UD alumni activities

1 p.m., June 28, 2013--University of Delaware alumni are invited to a host of activities in coming weeks, including professional baseball games and a tour of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City on July 16.

There also will a new student picnic on July 20 in Washington, D.C., to welcome members of the Class of 2017.

Authors Series

University of Delaware alumnus and investigative reporter Charles Lewis discussed his book "935 Lies: The Future of Truth and the Decline of American Moral Integrity" as part of the Delaware Diamonds Society Authors Series.

Intensive training

UD Police Officer Patrick McCloskey is one of nine Delaware law enforcement officers to complete an intensive training course to become a certified drug recognition expert.

These and other alumni activities in coming weeks are as follows:

Tuesday, July 9, 6 p.m.: Philadelphia happy hour. The Philadelphia Alumni Club will host a happy hour at Tietra Restaurant, 231 S. 15th St.

Saturday, July 13, 4:30 p.m.: Baseball series: Miami. Alumni are invited to a summer baseball series event at Marlins Park in Miami, where the Marlins will host the Washington Nationals. There will be a reception at the Home Plate Terrace.

Saturday, July 13, 5 p.m.: Baseball series: Seattle. Alumni in the Pacific Northwest are invited to the Owl ’n’ Thistle Irish Pub in Seattle for food and beverages before heading to Safeco Field to watch the Mariners take on the Los Angeles Angels.

Saturday, July 13, 6 p.m.: Baseball series: Reading, Pa. Alumni are invited to cheer on the Reading Phillies and enjoy a buffet at the Foul Porch at First Energy Stadium. Reading will be taking on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

Saturday, July 13, 6:30 p.m.: Baseball series: Aberdeen. Alumni are invited to a summer baseball series event at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Md., where the Aberdeen Ironbirds will battle the Williamsport Crosscutters.

Tuesday, July 16, 6:30 p.m.: Guggenheim Museum. Alumni are invited to join the UD Friends of Art History for an after-hours guided tour and reception at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City.

Thursday, July 18, 5:30 p.m.: Chicago networking. The Chicago Alumni Club hosts a networking happy hour on the third Thursday of each month.

Saturday, July 20, 11:30 a.m.: New student picnic in D.C. A new student picnic welcoming members of the Class of 2017 will be held at Quincy Park in Arlington, Va. The event is free but those who plan to attend are asked to register.

Saturday, Aug. 3, 5:30 p.m.: Baltimore crab feast. The Baltimore Alumni Club will offer a crab feast honoring new area Blue Hens at Oregon Ridge State Park.

Saturday, Aug. 3, 6:35 p.m.: Baseball series: Salisbury. Alumni are invited to a summer baseball series event at Arthur Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md., to cheer on the Delmarva Shorebirds. There will be fireworks and a buffet.
