UD Alumni Association adds six new members to board of directors

1:52 p.m., July 26, 2012--The University of Delaware Alumni Association has added six new members to its board of directors effective July 1. They are Ken Boyle, a 1978 graduate; Megan DiMuzio Del Collo, a 1999 graduate; Julie Zimmerman Derrickson, a 2001 graduate; Paul Fioravanti, a 1993 graduate; Maureen Cawley Ortega, a 1998 graduate; and Robert Waters, a 1982 graduate.

Darelle Lake Riabov, a 1973 graduate and president of the UD Alumni Association, expressed her excitement about the new board members slated to serve over the next four years. “Each new member brings a special set of skills that will help us move our organization forward,” said Riabov. “We have an ambitious agenda and plan to get them engaged in our efforts right away.”

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

As the UDAA welcomed its newest board members, representatives also expressed thanks to the association's outgoing members, who each completed a full four-year term of service.

The UDAA awarded the following outgoing members with a "degree in board service": John Gaul, a 1978 graduate; Susan Gell Hugel, a 1973 graduate and 1974 master's graduate; Thom Shumosic, a 2006 graduate; Joanne Colletta Reihm, a 1976 graduate; Ruth Johnson Reynolds, a 1964 graduate and 1997 master's graduate; and Stephan Zacharkiw, a 1999 graduate.

“I would like to especially thank this year’s outgoing board members,” said Riabov. “Not only did they serve their original board terms with great enthusiasm, all of them agreed to stay an extra year. As we said goodbye to them, each one asked me to find a way to keep them involved with UDAA in the future.”

Megan DiMuzio Del Collo EH99 

Del Collo resides in Moorestown, N.J., and is the director of learning and development for Lincoln Financial Group. She has served as a member at large on the Merchandise and Benefits Committee for three years and also attends Philadelphia Alumni Club events. She is a legacy to both UD and the UDAA; her father Tom DiMuzio also served on the UD Alumni Association.

Julie Zimmerman Derrickson AS01

Derrickson lives in Bear, Del., and is a billing coordinator for Maron Marvel Bradley and Anderson. She served as the programming chair for her 10th class reunion and regularly attends events in New Castle County and Philadelphia. She recently joined the board of the New Castle County Alumni Club as co-chair of special events. She was nominated by outgoing UDAA member John Gaul. 

Maureen Cawley Ortega AS98

Ortega resides in Wilmington, Del., and is a compliance specialist with Ace American Insurance Co. She is a football season ticket holder and avid tailgater and a member of the Delaware Diamonds Society. She was nominated by outgoing board member Thom Shumosic.

Ken Boyle EG78

Boyle resides in Yardley, Pa., and is president of StederNC LLC, a software and technology advisory company. He served as a UDAA member at large and on the Merchandise and Benefits Committee. Both of Boyle's children currently attend UD. He was nominated by current UDAA member Lynn Adams Kokjohn, also of the Class of 1978. 

Paul Fioravanti AS93

Fioravanti lives in Wilmington, Del., and is a managing director with Prickett, Jones and Elliott P.A. He is a supporter of the Soles Endowment and Soles Lecture and served as an adjunct professor of political science from 2004-05. Fioravanti is a UD parent as well; his daughter attends The College School. He was nominated by past UDAA member and president Len Stark, a 1991 graduate.

Robert Waters BE82

Waters resides in Oak Hill, Va., and is vice president, HR Strategy and Talent Management, with Northrop Grumman Corp. Waters is an active booster for the UD men’s lacrosse team. He served on the Alumni Advisory Board for Marymount University and is a current member of the Board of Visitors. Waters was nominated by current UDAA board member Karen Williams Miller, of the Class of 1977. 

UD Alumni Association

All University of Delaware graduates are automatically granted membership in the UD Alumni Association upon graduation and are inducted with a pinning ceremony at Commencement.
